Dementia Care Near York
Calm, consistent and rooted in dignity.

Specialist support for people living with dementia in East Yorkshire

Caring for someone living with dementia can feel overwhelming. The uncertainty, the questions, the sense that everything is changing too fast. At Lavender Fields, we understand what you're going through, and we're here to help.

Based in Barmby Moor, near York, we support families across the East Riding of Yorkshire and beyond. Our dementia care is built on quiet confidence and genuine compassion. This is a place where your loved one can feel safe, understood and supported through every stage of their journey, with familiar faces, consistent routines and care that respects who they are, not just what they need.

Understanding Dementia Care at Lavender Fields

Not all dementia care is the same. We focus on the person, not just the condition. That means getting to know your loved one's story, their preferences, what brings them comfort and what unsettles them.

Our approach is rooted in reducing anxiety and creating structure without pressure. There's no sense of rushing. No strict schedules that don't make sense. Just time, space and a team that truly understands what calm, dignified care looks like.

Residents are gently encouraged to stay involved in daily life at their own pace, supported at every step by people they know and trust.

What a breath of fresh air, a home designed around residents’ needs yet still feeling like home. As both a relative and a frailty clinician, I can say this is the best of them.

Care Led by Experience and Heart

Our founder, Chris Mitchell, holds a degree in Dementia Studies and remains closely involved in the daily running of Lavender Fields. The village was created in part to offer a gentler, more human approach to dementia care, one that recognises the emotional weight behind every decision families face.

You won't find institutional routines or clinical detachment here. You'll find patience, consistency and a team that notices the small things that matter most.

We recruit our care team for empathy and vocation, not just qualifications. Every team member understands that how someone feels is just as important as the care they receive.

“She might not always remember the moment, but she’ll remember the feeling. And that matters most.”

— Daughter of a Lavender Fields resident

What Makes Our Dementia Care Different

Person-centred care plans: We shape care around each person's life story, preferences and needs. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow, and we adapt with understanding, not frustration.

Familiar faces and consistency: Your loved one will see the same caring team who get to know them properly. Real relationships matter, especially when memory becomes uncertain.

Calm, thoughtfully designed spaces: Our environment is designed to reduce overstimulation and confusion. Familiar layouts, gentle lighting and quiet spaces where residents can feel settled and safe.

Meaningful engagement, not activities for the sake of it: We offer gentle routines, creative therapies and moments of connection that bring comfort and joy. Whether it's music, gardening, reminiscence or simply sitting together, it's always led by what feels right.

Support for families too: We know this journey is hard for you as well. We keep you connected, answer your questions honestly and make sure you feel part of your loved one's care, even when you can't always be there.

Later-life dementia support: We specialise in supporting people in the later stages of dementia with dignity, compassion and expert clinical care when it's needed most.

Dementia Care in a Village Setting

A Home for Life, Not Just a Care Home

Unlike traditional care homes, Lavender Fields is a care village. Our dementia residents live in Provence House at the heart of the village, with access to The Hub – a warm, sociable space where residents can enjoy a coffee, watch the world go by or simply be part of something going on around them.

Residents can also spend time in our beautiful gardens, or simply enjoy the gentle rhythm of daily life. It's about maintaining connection in a way that feels natural, not forced.

Our dementia care is part of a complete care journey. As needs change, care adapts – but your loved one stays in the same place, with the same team, in familiar surroundings.

Importantly, our fees don't increase when care needs increase. You pay one weekly fee that only adjusts annually for inflation, giving you financial certainty during an uncertain time.

You don’t have to do this alone.

We understand how difficult it is to find the right dementia care for someone you love. If you're feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to turn, or simply want to talk to someone who understands, we're here.

Book a visit to Lavender Fields and see how it feels. Meet our team, walk through Provence House, and ask us anything you need to know. There's no pressure, just honest conversation and the chance to see if we're the right fit for your family.
