Palliative & End of Life Care Near York

Quiet presence. Personal comfort. Gentle support.

There comes a time when care becomes about more than daily support. It becomes about comfort, dignity, peace and being surrounded by people who truly care.

At Lavender Fields, we offer palliative and end of life care in a setting that feels nothing like a hospital. This is a place where your loved one can be gently supported through the later stages of life, with familiar faces, familiar surroundings and a team who understand what this time really means.

For the person receiving care, and for the family going through it.

Support that still feels like home.

Palliative care is specialist support focused on comfort and quality of life, rather than treating an underlying condition. It can begin at any stage of a serious illness and is about managing pain, maintaining dignity and ensuring the person feels as peaceful and supported as possible.

At Lavender Fields, palliative care isn't something we bolt on. It's woven into the way we care for everyone, and it deepens naturally as needs change over time – as part of our care journey.

At Lavender Fields, based in Barmby Moor between York and Pocklington, we serve families across the East Riding of Yorkshire with palliative and end of life care that prioritises comfort and dignity.

What is Palliative Care?

Familiar Faces. Familiar Surroundings.

One of the most important things we can offer at this stage is continuity. Because our care journey is continuous, most residents are already known and loved by the team when their needs change. There's no need to move to a different room, a different home or face unfamiliar faces at a time when that would feel unsettling.

Your loved one stays in their own space, surrounded by the people and routines that feel safe and settled. The same care team who have been by their side simply step closer, with deeper support – but never with any sense of intrusion.

When presence matters more than words.

We know that this time can feel overwhelming for the people who love a resident most. Our role isn't just to care for your loved one – it's to support you through this as well.

Whether you live nearby or further away, we'll keep you informed, involved and connected. We offer open and honest communication, space to visit whenever you need to, and the flexibility to be part of your loved one's care in whatever way feels right for you.

You don't have to carry this alone. We're here to walk alongside you, not just your loved one.

Support for Families, Too

What Palliative and End of Life Care Looks Like Here:

  • Every person's journey is different. We shape care around what matters most to them – their preferences, their values, what brings them peace. There is no standard approach here, only what feels right for each individual.

  • Provence House offers a quiet, unhurried environment. There's no hospital atmosphere, no unnecessary disruption. Just a gentle, respectful space where your loved one can rest in comfort.

  • No transfers, no moves, no having to get used to new people. The team who already know your loved one continue to care for them, with the same warmth and attention to the small things that have always mattered.

  • Sometimes people want company. Sometimes they need peace. We follow the lead of the person we're caring for, and we notice when one feels more right than the other.

  • We work closely with GPs and specialist palliative care nurses to ensure your loved one's comfort is maintained at every stage. Managing pain and distress is central to everything we do at this time.

  • We don't rush. We sit. We notice. We're here for as long as is needed, with patience and genuine care for the person in front of us.

Thinking about palliative care or end of life care is one of the hardest things a family can face. It's natural to have questions, and it's natural to feel unsure. Here are a few things we can reassure you about:

Will my loved one have to move?
No. If your loved one is already living at Lavender Fields – whether in a bungalow or in Provence House – they can remain in their familiar surroundings throughout.

Will the care feel clinical or impersonal?
No. Palliative care at Lavender Fields is person-centred, not procedure-led. You won't find a clinical or institutional atmosphere here.

Do you work with NHS palliative care teams?
Yes. We work alongside GPs and specialist palliative care nurses to ensure the best possible care and pain management for your loved one at every stage.

Will my family be able to visit and be involved?
Absolutely. We have an open-door approach to visiting, and we actively encourage families to be as involved as they feel comfortable being.

Will fees change at this stage?
No. Our fees remain the same regardless of how care needs change. There are no hidden costs or unexpected charges at any stage of the journey.
